Be a better you: The Smartphone way!!

“When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” The teacher can be in the form of a child, boss, colleague, father, mother, friend or a smartphone. A smartphone? Did I say a smartphone? Yes. You read it right! A smartphone!! How can a smartphone teach me something? Did this question just pop up in your mind? Cool! It should have! I would love to answer that for you.

Today, Life without a smart phone is like a life without oxygen, an electrical appliance without electricity, the world without light or a cricket match without a ball. Smart phones have become such a crucial part of our daily lives that most people rely on them more than the majority of the organs of their bodies. Funny, but true!! Here I am, with a completely new perspective on this device. Let’s begin..

Say we decide to purchase a new smartphone? One of the first decisions that we take is: which brand should I go for? An Apple iPhone, Samsung, HTC, LG, Micromax, Karbonn or any other brand that possibly exists. All these brands are out there in the market publicizing and marketing their products, highlighting their unique features so that people get attracted to them and yes, buy them! Let’s pause for a moment here. I invite you to look at yourself as a brand! You are a Brand “You”!! Responsible for marketing or publicizing yourself. How well do you conduct yourself when you are with people, how well do you communicate to put your ideas across, do you come across as a pleasant personality, one who can be easily approached. All these and many more like these contribute towards your brand image in entirety. So pause for a moment and reflect on the brand “You”. Think about what is the image that you are projecting for the brand “You”..

Once we buy a new smartphone, one of the first things that we do is to load it up with as many apps as we need and we are always in constant search of that one more amazing app which we can download and utilize our smartphone to the core. Take a moment here and think, in your life, how often you focus on the thoughts that you load up in your mind. Remember, these are the thoughts that are shaping your future. How often do you focus on loading your life with the right kind of people around you? How often do you focus on loading your life with things that bring you happiness and let you enjoy your life to the core? Worth thinking!!

Wall huggers! An interesting adjective given by a tech company in one of its advertisements to people who constantly are in search of a wall with a power outlet to recharge their smartphone’s battery. You also charge your smartphone, right? Yes! Think about this. When was the last time you recharged yourself. Plan a vacation with family, meet friends, have some quality “Me” time, meditate, find new hobbies, exercise and yes let go of FOMO ( Fear Of Missing Out). Remember, “You” are your most valuable asset. So take time to renew and recharge yourself.

KitKat, Jelly bean, lollipop….. Wait wait. I ain’t talking about sweets. Software updates is what I am referring to. In case you are an Apple fanboy then iOS 8, 8.4, 9 and so on and something similar with Windows. We update the software of our smartphones periodically (as and when they are available) to keep our phones up to date, get new features, security, big fixes and so on. Now, sit back and think when was the last time you did something for the first time? When was the last time you upgraded your software? Reading a book, attending a training program, a seminar, doing a certification, acquiring a new skill etc. these are nothing but upgrades. It upgrades you to a better version of your own self. Learning happens and you use it to be a better you. So think about this, when was the last time you upgraded your own software to be a better you??

In this game called life, you decide either one of the two: Bhag lo(Run away) or Bhag lo(participate). In case you are one of those who choose the latter and want to participate in this game, enhancing yourself constantly is of prime importance. So, why wait? Go, go out and renew yourself, go out and upgrade yourself to a better version of you, go out and build a brand “You”, a brand that you will be proud of.
